2009 Joints in Motion
Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota

Choose an event such as running, walking, biking, triathlon

Joints in Motion

Become a member of Joints in Motion, the Arthritis Foundation's athletic training program. On behalf of the AF, you will raise funds and awareness to fight arthritis, the nation's number one cause of disability. We will train you to partcipate in an endurance event, such as a half or full marathon in our chapter area of Minnesota, North Dakota or South Dakota. Together we will help improve the quality of life for millions of men, women and children with arthritis.

Walk or run a marathon

The Joints in Motion training program is designed to guide people of all ages and fitness levels through an extensive training program to complete their event. Approximately 80% of all Joints in Motion athletes have never run or walked a marathon before, but with our careful guidance and encouragement, nearly all of them go the 26.2 mile distance and cross the finish line.

Our seasoned coaches offer 18-20 week training sessions that include detailed training schedules, weekly group walks or runs, and ongoing support to increase endurance and improve walking and running strategy. In addition, you will have the opportunity to learn more about important subjects such as proper footwear, nutrition and the importance of stretching.

Travel to an exciting location

Once you have reached your fund-raising goal, we will send you to the exciting event of your choice. You will receive race entry fee and team clothing.

We handle the details so all you need to worry about is getting in shape, raising funds for arthritis research, and experiencing the excitement of traveling to a great location.

Help raise funds to prevent, control, and cure arthritis

The perceptions about arthritis vary, but the numbers don't lie:
  • Arthritis is one of the most prevalent chronic health problems and the nation's leading cause of disability

  • 46 million Americans have doctor-diagnosed arthritis and chronic joint symptoms

  • 300,000 people with arthritis are children

  • Arthritis costs the US economy nearly $128 billion annually in lost wages

  • There are more than 100 forms of arthritis

Your participation in Joints in Motion enables you to honor someone living with arthritis, increase awareness of this disease and raise much-needed funds for research, advocacy initiatives and programs to improve the lives of people with arthritis.
